The 2018 Student Art Competition has Been Extended

1st place winner of the 2017 Student Art Competition
'Maya', 1st place winner by Cleopatra Christodoulides. Portrait of Maya Angelou, painted with only coffee on pages of her book, 'Why the Caged Bird Sings'.

SUNY Empire State College is extending the 2018 Art Competition, so there is still time to submit your work.

There are several categories of winners:

  • First, second, and third place winners of the competition will receive a monetary award.
  • In honor of SUNY Empire’s “Year Of” cultural initiative, there will also be a prize for the piece that best embodies the “Indigenous Peoples of the Americas” theme.
  • The piece selected for the poster will receive an additional award.
  • There may be several honorable mentions as well.

Competition winners, as well as the winning poster, will be recognized through a college-wide email that celebrates each art piece.  In addition, the winners will be invited to display their work at the 2019 Fall Student Conference. To help make that possible, we anticipate travel assistance for the top three winners.

Students are encouraged to submit up to 3 pieces of artwork online for review by a committee of judges across the state.  Any type/medium of art is accepted for judging, but it must be submitted as a two-dimensional electronic image. Students who have already submitted their pieces DO NOT need to resubmit.
