Welcome!

By Adrienne Sader, Student Success and Development Coordinator

Welcome to June! As I look over the information that we have in this newsletter, one theme that jumps out to me is celebration. June is a time when many of us celebrate. Celebrate your true self, celebrate what makes you unique, and celebrate how far you’ve come — as individuals and as a group. I encourage you to read our articles about Pride Month, and the importance of Juneteenth. Take the time to congratulate a recent graduate and applaud their accomplishments. Or find time to welcome changes and the motivation that keeps us pushing forward.

You can also think about the ways that you learn best and embrace that, even if it is a little different! At SUNY Empire, we understand that people learn in different ways, which is why we offer several different modes of study. If you’d like to explore new ways to learn at SUNY Empire, you can visit this website.

For others, celebrating may feel difficult right now. We have experienced unspeakable tragedies recently in this country and for some, too close to home. As much as there is to celebrate, there is just as much work to be done. It is normal and understandable if you’re feeling overwhelmed or even burned out. If you would like to explore ways to improve your health, including mental health, check out  LifeWorks My Student Support Program (MySSP). Not only will you have access to no-cost, confidential mental health counseling services, but you’ll also find a range of support services for your overall wellness.

Though there may still be a ways to go, I hope you can find something to celebrate this month, no matter how big or how small!
