The Office of Student Success and Development is here for you from the moment you register for your first class until you receive your diploma. When you get accepted, you are paired with a coordinator who can assist you with overcoming personal barriers or just answer your questions. We often help students with navigating SUNY Empire systems and procedures, getting connected to resources, and understanding how to best work with your mentor. We offer workshops throughout every term, and you can learn more about those on our website. We want you to feel comfortable reaching out to our office, so each month, we will introduce you to a member of the Student Success and Development team. Meet Charles Barnes Student Success and Development Coordinator!

 

Background info: 
 
I was born and raised on the Caribbean Island of Jamaica. I attended high school and college in Connecticut, which I consider my home state. I served the U.S. Navy and Army for 11 years and traveled to 14 countries, my favorites being Ireland, France, Italy and Spain.

What’s your favorite part of your job? 
 
Doing phone call campaign outreach to students as I find it challenging and fun.

I love History and historical facts. 

 

What is a piece of advice that you would share with a student? 
 
Never give up. Always believe there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
