Tips for Attending a Job Fair

By Anita Brown, Career Development Coordinator

Are you looking for a new job or interested in changing careers?

Attending a job fair is one of the easiest ways to connect with employers, recruiters, and hiring managers. Job fairs help you meet with various companies, market yourself, and possibly land your dream job.

If you want to increase your chances of getting hired, here are some tips from SUNY Empire Career Services to help you prepare and make the most of your time at the next event .

  • Research employers that are attending. Explore their Career and About pages to find out more about the organization and their current openings.

  • Review your resume in advance. Bring at least one copy for each organization you are interested in, along with several additional copies.

  • Prepare a game plan for the day of the job fair. Create a list of the organizations you want to speak with in ranking order and go to them on the first day of the job fair.

  • Develop your pitch. Show employers you know about their organization and have done your homework on them.
