Basic Needs at SUNY Empire
by Josh Boardman, basic needs coordinator
SUNY Empire State College wants to make sure you have the basic necessities to address your needs. Staff is available to provide referrals to state and federal resources. With one less worry, you will be able to give your all toward your education.
As reported by the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 38.1 million Americans are currently living in poverty, without a safe place to sleep, money for rent or groceries, and not knowing where their next meal will come from. Many students who struggle with putting food on the table will understandably choose food over education. Each and every one of us has a set of basic needs we have to prioritize in order to survive. SUNY Empire State College wants to make sure you have the basic necessities to address your needs. Staff is available to provide referrals to state and federal resources. With one less worry, you will be able to give your all toward your education.
To ensure all students know about basic needs resources, we will highlight a different service in each issue of the Student Connection Newsletter beginning next month. Each article will provide eligibility information and other facts to guide the process.
If you have a question or want to share information about a resource, please reach out to BasicNeeds@esc.edu.
See you next month!
