A Message from the SGA President

By Elizabeth Maxwell, SGA president

Many changes have happened over the summer and moving into the fall 2022 academic year. I became president after the spring elections along with my running mate Matt Berge, the SGA vice president. New to the SGA is Rhon Glasgow, serving as our elected treasurer. Rhon is a recent graduate of the School of Business  and is continuing his studies in graduate school in the fall. Matt Berge and I are both 2021 graduates of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Unfortunately, the SGA is without a secretary, and we are hoping to fill that position in September.

The Student Government Association Student Senate elected Destiny Ortiz, the longest serving member of the organization, as senate chair and Kae Kriegel as vice chair. The Senate is working hard to make this academic year as engaging as possible for the student body. We are committed to the needs of the students and making their experiences at SUNY Empire successful and meaningful. The SGA Senate has a newly formed committee called SEEN with four subcommittees: Student Success, Student Engagement, Student Events, and Student Needs. SEEN welcomes all students to participate on the committees. As we start moving through the 2022-23 academic year, I encourage students to come to our monthly All Student Meetings and connect with Destiny or Kae if you are interested in participating in the committees. Students can reach out directly to the Senate at SgaSenate@esc.edu.

With many fall events planned, we hope to have meaningful conversations with you and to advocate for your needs. Come and see us at Jumpstart on Thursday, August 31, from 6 to 7 pm. You can also stop by multiple locations for the Fall Kickoff on September 6,  for back-to-school giveaways and talk to SGA senators around the state. We will have members at our Buffalo, Hartsdale, Syracuse, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Rochester, Saratoga Springs (111 West Ave.), Manhattan, and Selden campuses from 5 to 7 p.m.

The SGA is always reachable by email at SGA@esc.edu. Please connect with us on our website and social media accounts. You can find us on Twitter: @SUNYEmpireSGA, Instagram: sunyempiresga, Discord, and LinkedIn: SUNY Empire State Student Government Association.
