Helpful Advice to New Students from Current Students

Philip Azour:

  • Professors want you to succeed and they want you to move forward. You have to be there as well, and you must give 100%.

Anonymous:

  • If you don’t know, ASK!

Kae Kriegel:

  • Remember why you are here! If the only reason is to get a degree, that’s fine.  Put up a note on your desk, or laptop.
  • Block off 6-8 hours a week for every class you have. If you have a 4-credit class, add at least 2 hours for each credit that you take, for example: 4-credit class X 2 hours of studying time = 8 hours per week, per class.
  • BE PROFESSIONAL. Take yourself seriously. This IS your job. You may not be getting paid, but you are ultimately building something that will improve your life. Treat school professionally.

  • Utilize your mentor for support.
  • You’re capable of much more than you think!

Fardys Zambrana:

  • Read your learning contract in its entirety and email your professor with any questions right away.
  • Plan out your course schedule for the 15 weeks. If you're unsure how to do that, contact Academic Support and have them help you.
  • Time management will be your key to success!

Lisa Brandler:

  • If you need help, ASK! Someone is always willing and usually able to help.

Gloria Reed:

  • Remember what led you here and push through; the finish line is within reach.
