Meet Your Student Success and Development Team!
The Office of Student Success and Development is here for you from the moment you register for your first class until you receive your diploma. When you get accepted, you are paired with a coordinator who can assist you with overcoming personal barriers or just answer your questions. We often help students with navigating SUNY Empire systems and procedures, getting connected to resources, and understanding how to work best with your mentor. We offer workshops throughout every term, and you can learn more about those on our website. We want you to feel comfortable reaching out to our office, so each month, we will introduce you to one of the Student Success and Development team members. If you think you need some help from our office we encourage you to email us at StudentSuccess@esc.edu or call 800-847-3000 ext. 1110.
Meet Quran Bell, Student Success and Development Coordinator!
Background info:
I am SUNY Empire alumni with a Bachelor of Arts in cultural studies with a concentration in communications and media. I am also a current social and public policy graduate student getting ready to complete my last semester (woohoo!!) this fall.
I’d like to think my claim to fame is being mom and sidekick to my 14-year-old son Carter who makes sure my life never has a dull moment.
How long have you been working here?
I just started in this position this past June! However, I worked as a work-study student in Enrollment and was very active in our Student Government Association, so I feel like it’s been much longer.
Where are you located?
I am in Rochester. Come by and see me if you’re in the area!!
What’s your favorite part of your job?
I absolutely love talking with students and helping them navigate the unknown during their time here. As a student I always appreciated those individuals who took the time to listen, answer questions, and just let me know they had my back. I’ve always felt it was my responsibility to pay it forward and be that person for future students.
If you were a potato, how would you like to be cooked?
I’d be mashed potatoes. Good ol’ comfort food that makes you feel good!
What is a fun fact you’d like to share?
I’m an avid reader and reality TV show junkie! Both relax me more than you know. I could spend all day in the library or bookstore and then the next binging all my shows.
What is a piece of advice that you would share with a student?
My best piece of advice would never be afraid to ask for help. You never know what information you’ll gain or connections you’ll make when you simply humble yourself and ask.
