"Play and the Role of Observation, Documentation and Assessment" Is Theme of Early Childhood Residency

"Play and the Role of Observation, Documentation and Assessment” is the theme of an early childhood residency set for Saturday, April 14, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at the National Museum of Play at the Strong, 1 Manhattan Square, Rochester.
Participants will explore how documentation and reflection can help individuals working with infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children to enhance curriculum development. A certificate of attendance will be issued for professional development.
Participants will examine strategies for observing, documenting and assessing, and about the role of documentation at The Strong’s own Woodbury Preschool, a Reggio Emilia-inspired program founded on the principle of honor and respect for all children for their potential, their capabilities and their humanity.
Hands-on experiences will include opportunities for “kid-watching” and documenting in the National Museum of Play exhibits. Participants will have opportunities to engage in small-group discussions and to apply their understanding to their own practice.
This residency is open to SUNY Empire State College students as well as individuals who do not attend the college. Registration for members of the SUNY Empire State College community is at the time he or she signs up for a related course; non-students need to register by April 11.
