SUNY Empire Votes Kick-Off Event
By Suzanne Lazar, student, SUNY Empire State College, editor, The Student Connection
March 10, 2016
The SUNY Empire Votes Campaign held a voter registration event on Saturday July 9, at the High Rock Pavilion Farmer’s Market in Saratoga Springs.
The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the importance of voting by promoting voter registration and encourage people to make a PLEDGE TO VOTE in the upcoming 2016 election, as well as future elections.
Forty-three people visited the college table, most of whom are already registered voters in NY state and some from other states, but the reaction to bringing voting out into the public was well received and supported as most eagerly took the pledge to vote.
Suzanne Lazar, student, SUNY Empire; Karen Garner, faculty, SUNY Empire; and Pam Malone, staff, SUNY Empire and president of the UUP SUNY Empire State College chapter, represented SUNY Empire State College with registration forms on hand and ROCK THE VOTE t-shirts to give away to anyone who made the pledge to vote.
The SUNY Empire Votes campaign will be hosting more events right up until Election Eve.
