SUNY Empire State College Welcomes our new Provost David Bejou, Ph.D

By Suzanne Lazar ’17, student, School for Graduate Studies; editor, The Student Connection

September 15, 2017

On behalf of the Office of the Provost, please join The Student Connection in welcoming David Bejou.  As the new term begins, Bejou is getting to know all areas of the college, specifically students, and talking about the great things the college should expect to see.  Here’s what he had to say:

Dear students,

It is my honor to welcome you to the 2017 fall term at SUNY Empire State College.

Like many of you, I am also new to Empire State College. And like many of you, I have come to Empire State College because I believe in its mission: to provide all learners like yourselves, with flexible academic programs that empower people and strengthen communities.

Along with the faculty and staff, I am committed to your academic success and your personal and professional growth.  Here, you will find dedicated mentors and faculty whose commitment to working with students are unparalleled in the SUNY system and across the U.S. Reach out to your mentors and faculty with your questions and seek their advice as you move through your program. And, don’t hesitate to reach out to any of our dedicated staff or I, with any thoughts, questions or concerns you may have.

In our efforts to improve the student experience, we have made many changes over the past year. We have created new programs and certificates to increase your career options, such as our Bachelor of Science in Allied Health, Master of Science in Finance and our undergraduate certificate in Healthcare Management. We have restructured our Registrar’s office to streamline processes for transfer, degree audit and graduation services.  And, we continue in our efforts to strengthen academic supports and resources through our Academic Instructional Services team.

I would also like to invite you to the 2017 Fall Student Conference. This conference is unique among non-traditional higher education institutions. There you can connect with faculty, staff and your fellow students, while attending panels, leadership workshops, career fair, and a town hall with the President. The conference is November 2-4, 2017 at the Hilton in Downtown Albany and you may register at Fall Student Conference. Follow the link to see the full list of activities at this year’s Fall Student Conference. I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

David Bejou, Ph.D.
