Newark, N.J. resident Cheryl Donahue has been named a Bahr Scholar by SUNY Empire State College.

The scholarship is intended for union members and their families. Donohue, who is earning her Bachelor of Science through the college's Center for Distance Learning, is married to a union employee at Verizon, which made her eligible for the scholarship.

The scholarship is named for Morton Bahr, president emeritus of the Communications Workers of America. Bahr graduated from The Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies in 1983, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from SUNY in 1995
