Maria Jo NobleMaria Jo Noble, at right, 2012 Bradford County (Penn.) Dairy Princess, has been crowned the 2012-13 Pennsylvania Dairy Princess. She is a CDL student.

Judges selected Noble, 18, of Gillett, Penn., from a pool of county dairy princesses from across the state during the 56th annual Pennsylvania Dairy Princess Pageant in Camp Hill.

"It's such a great honor," Noble said. "I'm looking so forward to serving the Pennsylvania dairy industry."

As a representative of the state's dairy industry, Noble will be responsible for educating people statewide on the benefits of dairy products. "One of my key jobs as Pennsylvania Dairy Princess is to educate and assure the public that their milk comes from a good place and to get their three servings of dairy every day," she said.

Noble will also attend farm bureau meetings across the state, make frequent stops at legislative offices in Harrisburg, and appear at several statewide events, including next January's Pennsylvania Farm Show and the Ag Progress Days sponsored annually by Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.

The state Dairy Princess is involved "a lot more on the state level," Noble said. "It's a step up from the county."

A panel of judges chose Noble from a group of seven finalists based on public speaking skills, knowledge of the dairy industry, poise and personality.

Noble placed first in a speech contest and a competition for the best radio spot promoting the dairy industry. Participants also performed a skit meant to educate children about dairy, completed and displayed a scrapbook of the promotions conducted throughout the year, and participated in a poster display, knowledge competition and an interview with the judges.

Noble is currently studying online at the college. She plans to attend college for agriculture business and communications following her term as state dairy princess.
