The Empire State College library has launched a pilot program as part of the library’s six-month preliminary participation in Ask Us 24/7, a reference service provided by New York librarians. The trial will provide Empire State College users with access to live chat with a librarian 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Our goal is to better serve the diverse information needs of students and faculty, especially if you work during nontraditional hours, study early in the morning or late at night, or live outside of the eastern U.S. time zone.
For assistance during regular library hours (Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.; Sunday, 1-9 p.m. ET), you can phone, chat or submit a question to a reference librarian from the Empire State College online library homepage as usual. Outside of library business hours, you will be able to chat with an academic librarian from the Ask Us 24/7 cooperative.
The link to the Ask Us 24/7 chat page will take you to a brief form before connecting you to a professional reference librarian, who is a member of the librarian consortium. You will be automatically identified as an Empire State College library user and the librarian will have access to the college’s profile of library resources to better tailor their response to meet your needs.
Your feedback is important and will be considered in determining whether the library permanently adopts Ask Us 24/7. Questions or comments about this new service can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org, or may be answered in the FAQ page at http://www.askus247.org/info/faq.php.
