Leadership Qualities, a log with these words in gold on a white banner across a black photograph with a hand holding the emblem. Are you ready to take your leadership to the next level?

Applications are now being accepted for SUNY Empire State College’s all new Leadership Institute.

The Leadership Institute at SUNY Empire State College is an elite and challenging yearlong program that will build on the leadership skills you already have and propel you to the next stage of your development. It is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership which allows students to explore their own skills, work with a group and commit to a social action project.

Only a select group of students will be chosen to participate in this all-inclusive leadership program in its inaugural year. The Institute requires a one year commitment beginning in Fall 1 2015 term that includes: three in-person weekend meetings at the Student Academic Conference in the fall, a leadership residency in the winter and the Student Wellness Retreat in the spring; attendance at several online leadership development workshops and seminars; monthly telephone meetings with your leadership coach; an individual volunteer commitment; a social action group project and a presentation to next year’s leadership class at their first meeting.

The Leadership Institute is free for all students who are accepted into the program. It includes all hotel fees for the Student Academic Conference, the winter residency and the Student Wellness Retreat. Applications are being sought from students who want to engage in personal growth and who are willing to make a social commitment. To be considered, you must be a matriculated student of SUNY Empire State College, have a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher and must have completed at least one term with the college before the Fall 1 2015 term.

There are countless benefits for the students who make a commitment to completing the Leadership Institute. They include experience in self-assessment, conflict resolution, public speaking, problem-solving skills, ethics and more. These resume building skills will provide valuable experience to help you move forward in your educational and professional careers. Overall, this program will help build self–confidence, which leads to improved emotional well-being. Therefore, your long-range health will be positively affected, greatly adding to the extensive and important benefits that the SUNY Empire State College Leadership Institute offers.

To apply, you must complete the full application, along with one letter of reference and an essay. This essay should describe your interests, life experiences and goals, while also speaking to why you would like to participate in the Leadership Institute. The full application process and details can be found by visiting www.esc.edu/studentleadership. You will be contacted for a telephone interview once your completed application materials have been received and reviewed.
