“Thrillumentary” – The Reading of an Original Script
By Suzanne Lazar, student, SUNY Empire State College; editor, The Student Connection
May 5, 2016
On May 21, professional actors will conduct a “reading” of the original Murder Mystery script “Thrillumentary”, a screenplay in development and written by ESC Alumnus, renowned filmmaker and entrepreneur Yianni Stamas.
SUNY Empire State College students will be the film crew who shoots the piece if the screenplay gets the green light. But whether or not “Thrillumentary” gets the “OK” to move forward, this even holds great importance as those who are present, after the reading, will decide whether the project should move on to the next level which is fundraising and how to build an audience.
The “Thrillumentary” project is a part of "Create An Audience," a program which ties into the event “Funding For Artists” being held on May 19 at 325 Hudson St in NY. At this event, one of the topics covered will be “How to Build and Audience,” a very important component when working on a variety of different projects, specifically movies and films.
The vision for "Thrillumentary" is it will be initially done as an Empire State College web series released weekly in 27 webisodes. The casting of the event will be organized and managed by actor and writer Victor Verhaeghe, known for his role in HBO's "Boardwalk Empire", Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies" and more.
Finally, a fun and interesting aspect of the event is it will take place in the Inwood Manhattan basement of the famous Dichter’s Pharmacy and "Community Center" written up in the "New York Times," the "Daily News" and more. So if nothing else it will be a creative Empire State College experience!
Whether your interests lie in filmmaking, writing, acting or anything with the arts, don’t miss this unique chance to attend this event and be a part of history making at its finest.
The reading will be held Saturday May 21, 11am at 4953 Broadway New York, NY, near W. 207th Street.
Admission is Free!
