Meet Michael Alston

Michael AlstonMichael Alston ’87, at left, graduated from the Center for Distance Learning with a bachelor’s degree in business, management and economics. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Sri Lanka and is currently president and CEO of Empire Solutions International LLC, a diverse learning and automatic merchandising company specializing in web design and web development, sales effectiveness, organizational change, leadership enhancement, individual, team and organizational development, professional coaching and vending.

Presently a student at Walden University, he is working on his dissertation on the study of the roles of the United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund in reducing illiteracy and malnutrition among primary school students in Sri Lanka.

Alston was chosen by the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education to present a study paper on “The Power of Self Discovery: Using Psychometric Profiles to Enhance Personal and Professional Development of Black Students.” The purpose of his work was to present leadership and learning development models based on the research of Swiss psychologist Dr. Carl Jung and a powerful computer program called Insights Discovery.

Alston was born and raised in Harlem, N.Y.
