Meet Donald DeSmith

Donald DeSmith Donald DeSmith ’04, at left, received a bachelor’s of science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Genesee Valley Center. He attended college while fulfilling his responsibilities as chief deputy for the Ontario County (NY) Sheriff’s Office, a position he has held for 26 years. He is also a graduate – and former director -- of the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy and the FBI National Academy. Since 1992, DeSmith has been the program manager leading the agency’s efforts to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. and is the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Program-assessor for both programs.

DeSmith oversees a staff of 70 in the Law Enforcement Bureau. His has special expertise in Patrol and Investigations-Administration, Operations, Special Operations and Training. He is a New York state-certified master instructor for Police General Topics and has assessed agencies in Florida, Colorado and New Jersey as well as in New York.
