Empire State University President Lisa Vollendorf Featured as Guest Cohost on EdUp Experience Podcast

(SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – October 5, 2023) Empire State University President Lisa Vollendorf was a guest cohost on the EdUp Experience podcast in an episode entitled “Bucking the Trend”. The EdUp podcast is a higher education podcast covering a wide range of topics in the ever-changing landscape of higher education, featuring a variety of guests from university presidents to ed-tech entrepreneurs.  

She spoke with host Dr. Michelle Cantu-Wilson, owner of Vida Consulting for Higher Education, and guest Dr. Andrew Hsu, president of the College of Charleston. Dr. Hsu and Dr. Vollendorf were previously deans together at San Jose State University who have both become presidents in the last few years at thriving institutions of public higher education. 

"What we have in common is this privilege of growth, but also a responsibility to be a leader of an institution that is growing,” said Dr. Vollendorf. 

The pair discussed the ways they’ve found success in their presidencies, as well as the importance of public higher education in today’s landscape. 

“I have a relational approach to the world in terms of my own learning,” Dr. Vollendorf said. “You must find a way forward – and the way forward is through vision building and strategic planning.”
