Academic Action Plan

The Academic Action Plan was created out of the year-long  review of student experiences with the educational planning process, advising, and initial enrollment by the Presidential Educational Planning Task Force and Presidential Educational Planning Task Force Working Groups. The Task Force identified four thematic areas for improvement: Early Initiatives, Educational Planning, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), and Service Standards, which the Task Force Working Groups subsequently refined into specific recommendations. The Academic Action Plan operationalizes these recommendations.

  • TEAMS model to support students from application-first year enrollment.
  • Coordinated support for students.
  • Early transcript review & degree forecasting.

July 20, 2022 Update

  • Reviewed and assessed three approaches, in addition to staffing models, enrollment data, and financial impacts that affect ability to improve capacity to attract and retain students. Cabinet approved a three phase pilot to begin summer/fall 2022.

 

  • First year enrollment in Educational Planning.
  • Clarify role of Educational Planning in "structured programs."
  • Clarify the courses meeting Educational Planning requirement.

July 20, 2022 Updates

  • Undergraduate Committee for Academic Policy (UCAP) is reviewing relevant policies and has created three subcommittees to develop policy recommendations in:
    • Educational Planning
    • Rationale essay
    • Prior learning.
  • Directors of Academic Review (DAR) group reviewed Advanced Standing Credit for Educational Planning policy section; determined policy permits using advanced standing credit for Educational Planning.

 

  • Early identification of prior learning assessment (PLA) (Pre-enrollment to first year.)
  • Decouple PLA approval from degree plan approval.
  • Create a single source for PLA information.
  • Implement a technology platform for individualized prior learning assessment (iPLA) processing.
  • Expanded training/support for mentors.

July 20, 2022 Update

  • Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) hosted PLA retreat on June 6-7.
  • Undergraduate Committee for Academic Policy (UCAP) has convened a subcommittee to examine consideration of decoupling advanced standing from concurrence.

  • Revise service standards policy.
  • Create and publicize service standards by functional group.

July 20, 2022 Update

  • Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) has begun reviewing existing information technology (IT) and other projects.
  • Faculty have begun exploring course options for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice (DEISJ).
  • Undergraduate Committee for Academic Policy (UCAP) and Senate approved Degree Works pilot.
  • Center for Mentoring, Learning and Academic Innovation (CMLAI) is working to rebuild the mentoring and advising portal to serve as a "one stop shop" for mentoring resources, training, and communities of practice.

Academic Action Plan Airtable

An Academic Action Plan Airtable is being created to track progress on the plan and allow for university wide updates.  We will provide a link to the Airtable once it is complete.
