(EAST GREENBUSH, NY - August 7, 2023) Arts in the Parks is an exciting opportunity for all members of the East Greenbush and surrounding communities to engage in creativity, learning, and artistic appreciation. Continuing through August, the town is offering free classes in various art forms, including nature photography, plein air painting, collage/vision-board making, and arts and crafts for children. These classes will take place at Hampton Manor Park Beach House, situated at 234 Lake Shore Dr, Rensselaer, NY 12144. Each class will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday nights.

These classes are open to all residents of East Greenbush and surrounding communities free of charge. Depending on demand, additional sessions may be added to accommodate more participants. Details can be found here.

This initiative was made possible through the State Council on The Arts 2023 Regrant from the Arts Center of the Capital Region, which was awarded to Empire State University Visiting Associate Professor Lisa D'Adamo-Weinstein in April 2023. In collaboration with the Town of East Greenbush and the Community and Recreation Department, D'Adamo-Weinstein, along with other artists, facilitated a series of free community arts classes in Hampton Manor Park throughout the summer and fall of 2023. Additionally, a Fall Arts Show will be organized to coincide with the Community Day at the East Greenbush Town Park in August. Moreover, D'Adamo-Weinstein will be working closely with faculty and students from Columbia High School and Red Mill Elementary School to create a second community mural to be painted on the roadside of the Hampton Manor Beach House.

This project is funded by the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, with support from the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. The program is administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.

Through the joint efforts of East Greenbush, the parks and recreation facilities have greatly improved, along with the expansion of arts and wellness events in our community parks.
