OPEN CALL FOR ARTWORK
The Brain Week team cordially invites you to submit your original artwork in application for an exciting art exhibition taking place at the SUNY Empire State Livingston Gallery in Brooklyn, New York (March 9-April 12) Submissions will be juried by a panel of faculty and students. The gallery exhibition will be highlighted with an opening reception, to which the public is invited, free of charge on March 9, 2023.
The centerpiece for the gallery exhibition will be a fiber art piece comprising hand-made neurons that will be displayed from the ceiling of the gallery. The entire college community has been invited to either knit or create a neuron toward this collective endeavor. https://sunyempire.edu/brain-awareness-week/
Description: For this competition, we are looking for two-dimensional works of art from our SUNY ESC students that will complement this model of the brain, especially work dealing with brain health, a visualization of the brain, or even work done from microscopic images or other depictions of the brain, its parts, its composition, or its beauty.
Specifications: Please submit jpgs, up to three per person, which documents your work in a clear manner. Please limit the size of each jpg to 1200 pixels on its largest side. Include:
- your name and ESC location, area of study, optional
- title of art work, with size (length before width)
- artistic medium (such as photograph, watercolor, digital print, et al)
- sale price (or NFS meaning not for sale)
- contact information: telephone, email
- social media: optional
- a short bio and a few sentences stating what your work is about (250 words max.)
SEND TO: Dr. Julie Parato (Julie.parato@esc.edu), no later than February 15, 2023. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis up until that date.
Finished size: We will accept finished framed work up to 24" as the largest dimension. Paintings on canvas do not have to be framed, but they do need to be wired and ready to hang.
Framing: Framed work must arrive to the gallery by the gallery drop off date (March 6, 2023) framed and ready to hang. The back of the frame must include a wire that may be hung on a simple hook; work that is not wired or ready to hang will not be included. Saw tooth hooks are problematic and not preferred. If you have digital art, there may be some opportunities for the organizers to print the image and include it in a hanging wall art piece. Please contact Julie.parato@esc.edu with any questions.
Delivery: the gallery drop-off date is March 6, 2023. Contact Julie.parato@esc.edu for specifications for sending your work via UPS if you are from a location outside of the Metropolitan New York City area.
Note: SUNY Empire does not carry fine-art insurance and while we are very careful and professional about handling art, we are not able to assume responsibility for lost or damaged work.
