With the Fall term underway, several changes have occurred. The most significant change is Brightspace, and we are all adjusting to the new system. The Student Government Association (SGA) is working with the vice provost of Student Success on better forms of communication. Working with the administration enables the SGA leadership to advocate and make helpful changes.

Fall is full of change, from the weather to sports. As we move into one of the most beautiful times of the year, we have a tremendous opportunity to see change around us in nature. We accept this change, and for some, fall is one of the best times of the year. The SGA has made many changes over the summer to engage more with the students this semester. These changes include restructuring committees in the Student Senate and involving of students on committees in the College Senate.

The SGA Student Senate has multiple participation opportunities - from becoming a student senator to working on a committee without being a senator. The S.E.E.N. Committee has several ways for students to get involved. The committee is an umbrella committee that works on different issues.

S – Student Success
Works on issues related to success and recognition

E – Student Engagement
Works on developing ways to interact more with the college community’s student population.

E – Student Events
Works on planning events for students throughout the semester

N – Student Needs
Works on issues for student needs including food insecurity, mentoring services, and information for students on resources.

If you have an interest in becoming a senator, please express your interest to the SGA@ESC.EDU

We look forward to working with students and encourage them to come to our monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.

I also want to take this opportunity to update you on my role in the SUNY Student Assembly. I will be SUNY Empire State’s  state-operated campuses representative on matters in Albany.
